US Open, day 9: All eyes on 17-year-old Belinda Bencic

- The women's quarter-finals in the bottom half of the draw take place and feature 17-year-old Belinda Bencic up against China's Peng Shuai while former world number one and 2009 runner-up Caroline Wozniacki faces Italy's Sara Errani. Bencic, ranked 58th in the world, is the youngest US Open quarter-finalist since Martina Hingis won the title in 1997 at the age of 16. Hingis' mother Melanie Molitor is one of Bencic's coaches.

- Grigor Dimitrov and Gael Monfils meet for the third time (tied 1-1). Their first meeting came at the US Open in the first round three years ago and the Frenchman won in straight sets. Dimitrov came into this season with an 8-13 match record in Grand Slam tournaments, never getting past the third round Now, he is one win away from reaching his third major quarter-final of the season (12-3 record). Monfils is trying to reach his second US Open quarter-final after 2010.

- Five-time champion Roger Federer faces Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut for the first time. Federer has a 24-1 record at night in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Federer is trying to reach his 10th US Open quarter-final in 11 years and 43rd overall in a major. Bautista Agut is one of the most improved players on the ATP World Tour this season, making the biggest jump into the Top 20 from last season (No. 59 to No. 19).

- Marin Cilic faces Gilles Simon trying to reach the quarter-finals in New York for the third time. Simon is looking to advance to his second Grand Slam tournament quarter-final after making the last-eight in Australia in 2009.

- In the day's other last-16 match, Tomas Berdych tackles Dominic Thiem, the lowest-ranked player left in the draw at 45. Berdych reached the semi-finals in 2012 and is bidding to make his 11th major quarter-final. Thiem, who turns 21 on Wednesday, is trying to become the first Austrian man to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final since Jurgen Melzer at the 2010 French Open. The last Austrian to reach the quarter-finals in New York was Thomas Muster in 1996.
