The teenaged son of a police detective shot two administrators at his Omaha, Nebraska high school on Wednesday then drove away to commit suicide, police said.

Police identified Robert Butler Jr, 17, as the shooter and said they were still trying to piece together why he came to the school “in the capacity to do damage.”

However, a post on his Facebook page showed that Butler was desperately unhappy at Millard South High School, which he had transferred to in November.

“Everybody that used to know me, I’m sorry, but Omaha changed me and (expletive) me up and the school I now attend is even worse,” Butler apparently wrote in a post uploaded from his cell phone.

“You are going to hear about the evil (expletive) I did, but that (expletive) school drove me to this. I want you guys to remember me for who I was before this. I know I greatly affected the lives of the families I ruined, but I’m sorry. Goodbye.”

The school was placed on lockdown around 1 pm (1800 GMT) after principal Curtis Case and assistant principal Vicki Kasper were shot.

Butler fled before police arrived and was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a red Honda parked not far from the school, police chief Alex Hayes told reporters.
