Dubai: Do you need to book a taxi, but require it for a person of determination (POD)? It’s never been easier to find accessible vehicles – called POD taxi or POD vans – in Dubai.

Here’s how to book, receive discounts and board an accessible taxi, in just a few taps.

What do I need to book an accessible taxi?

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has made daily commutes more accessible and seamless for people of determination, with comfortable, spacious POD taxis and vans that feature mobility ramps and can accommodate wheelchairs.

Sanad card: In order to book a POD taxi or van, you will require a Sanad card, which is free of charge and available for people of determination, if they are UAE citizens, residents or tourists. The Sanad card requires the applicant to show proof of disability, and can be availed of via the Community Development Authority’s (CDA) website, app or Customer Happiness Centre. Sanad card-holders receive free parking in Dubai, exemption from Salik fees, and discounts in hospitals, among other benefits.

Bolt app: Bolt is a ride hailing app in the UAE, which also includes food and grocery delivery. Eligible commuters receive a 50% discount on POD rides via the Bolt app. To avail of the discount, they must first add their valid Sanad ID number to their Bolt app profile before booking.

Here’s how you can add a Sanad ID to your Bolt app:

  • Download the Bolt app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Open the app and register with your personal details, including your full name, mobile phone number and email address.
  • Tap ‘Account’ and select your ‘Profile’. Tap on the ‘Sanad ID’ button.
  • Enter your Sanad ID number and tap ‘Save’.
  • Now, you’re ready to book your POD taxi or van. 

How to book a POD taxi or van

Follow these steps to book a POD taxi or van on the Bolt app:

  • Open the Bolt app and tap ‘Rides’ on the home screen.
  • Enter your destination in the ‘Where to?’ field.
  • Now, choose your preferred vehicle. Select ‘POD Taxi’ or ‘POD Van’ from the options. Tap ‘Select Bolt’.
  • Review your pick-up location and tap ‘Confirm Order’. The POD taxi/van will arrive in mere minutes.

The RTA states that the 50% discount is automatically applied at the end of the journey, and will be reflected on both the taxi meter and your final ride receipt.
