Dubai: If you’re living in Dubai, you no longer need to visit a vehicle testing centre to renew your car registration.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a mobile vehicle inspection service ‘Aber’, which allows you to book the service online and complete all the required steps from the comfort of your home.

Here is all you need to know about how to use the service.

When do I need to get my vehicle testing done?

A car’s registration is renewed every year, but if your car is older than three years, you will need to get a vehicle inspection done as well. This ensures roadworthiness, and you will be provided a roadworthiness certificate, which is required to renew your vehicle registration.

Required documents

Normally, you would require two main documents to complete your vehicle registration:

  • Emirates ID
  • Vehicle registration card (Mulkiya)
  • Valid vehicle insurance

However, you may also need to provide additional documents in certain cases, including the following:

  • Advertisement permit (where applicable)
  • Trade licence (for company-owned vehicles)

How to book the service

  • Visit abertesting.ae
  • Click on the location option and select your locality.
  • A pop-up window will show you the location map – move the location pin to your exact address.
  • Add any additional address details.
  • Enter your contact number and name.
  • Save the details and then choose the date from the available options.
  • Next, choose the number of vehicles.
  • You will then be given the available time slots, which you can choose from.
  • Select whether the vehicle is privately owned, or a company car.
  • You will then receive two options for the vehicle testing: ‘Renewal/Registration Test’ and ‘Renewal/Registration 2nd test’. Choose the second option if your vehicle inspection failed the last time and you wish to get it tested again after getting it fixed.

The cost for both services varies:

- For the first test, the total service cost is AED 475.

- For a second test, the total service cost is AED 375.

If you do choose the second option, you will be asked to upload the failed test report before proceeding.

  • Next, you will be asked to log in using your mobile number. Click on ‘submit’ next to your mobile number and enter the one-time password sent to your phone.
  • Enter your first name, last name and email address.
  • Make the payment.

Once your payment has been made, you will receive a confirmation message on your phone for the date and time of the vehicle inspection.

While the mobile service costs more than a vehicle inspection at a testing centre, this can be an extremely convenient and practical option, if you are unable to visit a testing centre.
