Dubai: Dubai Police have completed the first phase of a solar energy project covering 28 police sites, resulting in an estimated annual reduction of 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.
According to Dubai Police, the reduction represents 20 per cent of the total carbon emissions generated by police buildings and facilities.
The project, implemented by the General Department of Logistics Support, was launched during COP28 in 2023 as part of a 25-year plan to expand the use of solar energy across Dubai Police facilities.

The first phase covered 28 locations, including police stations, general departments and other police facilities.
Dubai Police said the implementation approach takes into account the age, design and operational requirements of each site to ensure that sustainability measures are introduced without affecting police operations or public services.
Engineer Maryam Rashid Bonfour, Director of the Energy Efficiency Projects Portfolio at the Environment, Health and Safety Department of the General Department of Logistics Support, said the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the efficiency of police facilities, reduce resource consumption and support environmentally friendly buildings.
Long-term programme
Bonfour said the project extends over 25 years and is being implemented in carefully planned phases covering both existing and future Dubai Police facilities.
She added that the first phase has enabled the 28 sites to contribute to a reduction of approximately 26,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
Dubai Police said the initiative supports national and local clean energy and carbon reduction strategies, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Next stage
The force is preparing to launch the second phase of the programme during the final quarter of 2026, extending solar energy systems to additional buildings and facilities.
According to Dubai Police, the project supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and wider efforts to reduce carbon emissions, with the objective of helping increase carbon reduction levels to 50 per cent by the end of 2030.
Sustainability efforts
Dubai Police noted that the project forms part of a broader sustainability agenda that includes responsible resource management and environmental initiatives.
The solar programme was also highlighted in an episode of the Dubai Police Podcast, which examined how renewable energy is being used to transform police facilities into greener buildings.
