Dubai: Under the umbrella of the Ministry of Interior, the Positive Spirit Council at the Dubai Police, in cooperation with strategic partners, organised a series of security, traffic and community awareness lectures, alongside specialised cybersecurity lectures, for 427 residents from the Bangladeshi community at the Marco Polo Hotel in Deira.

The lectures come within ongoing efforts to enhance community awareness and consolidate a culture of safety and security among the various communities residing in the emirate of Dubai.

The awarness lectures addressed a number of security and traffic topics, including promoting positive behaviours, compliance with the laws and regulations in force in the country, and strengthening the culture of traffic safety, along with presenting the smart services provided by Dubai Police and the channels for communicating with the public, helping to facilitate access to police services for various segments of society.

In conjunction with Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the lectures included awareness of the most prominent electronic fraud methods and cybercrimes, the risks of sharing personal and banking data, and ways to deal safely with suspicious links and messages, with emphasis on the importance of protecting electronic accounts, not disclosing passwords or verification codes, and reporting fraud attempts through official approved channels.

The awarness lectures addressed a number of security and traffic topics, including promoting positive behaviours, compliance with the laws and regulations in force in the country, and strengthening the culture of traffic safety.

The Positive Spirit Council also gave special attention to educating members of the Bangladeshi community on the preventive measures to be followed in the event of unstable weather conditions as winter approaches, with the aim of enhancing community readiness and raising awareness of how to deal safely with weather fluctuations and exceptional climatic conditions.

The awareness highlighted the importance of following weather bulletins and warnings issued by the National Center of Meteorology and the relevant official authorities, avoiding unnecessary outings during severe weather, staying away from areas where rainwater collects, valley streams, and low-lying areas, and not risking crossing roads flooded with water.

The lectures also covered the importance of adhering to speed limits and leaving safe distances between vehicles during rainfall, avoiding phone use while driving, staying away from lighting poles and exposed electrical connections, and not approaching trees or unstable structures during strong winds.

The awareness also addressed the importance of securing belongings in open areas, following safety instructions in homes and workplaces, and contacting the relevant authorities in the event of emergencies, along with informing them of the emergency numbers: 999 for emergencies and 901 for inquiries and non-emergency cases.

Ms. Fatima Ahmed Buhajeer, Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council at Dubai Police, affirmed that the event reflects Dubai Police's keenness to enhance direct communication with various communities, and to deliver awareness, security, and preventive messages to all segments of society, in line with its strategic directions in enhancing safety, security, and quality of life.

Buhajeer said: "Our community responsibility is not limited to spreading security, traffic, and cyber culture, but extends to anticipating potential risks and enhancing community readiness to deal with them, especially in light of the weather fluctuations that the country may witness during the coming period, because we believe that awareness is the first line of defence, and that human safety remains a top priority in all our community initiatives and programmes."

She added: "At the Positive Spirit Council, we are keen to reach various communities in their gathering places, and to provide awareness in simplified ways that take into account their cultural and linguistic diversity, ensuring that preventive messages reach the largest possible segment, enhancing trust and positive communication between the police and the community, and embodying Dubai's position as a global model in security, coexistence and community cohesion."

Buhajeer concluded by affirming the importance of concerted efforts among government entities, strategic partners, and community members, and the necessity of sourcing information from official sources and not circulating rumours, noting that adherence to preventive guidelines and responsible behaviour contribute to protecting lives and property and enhancing community safety and security.
