Dubai: Dubai’s tunnels are soon going to turn into public art spaces, thanks to a collaboration between the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.

Here’s everything you need to know about participating the tunnel art project:

Who is eligible to apply: Emirati and UAE-based artists, designers, and architects

When to apply: Registration is currently open and closes on June 15, 2026.

Who will judge the submissions: A panel of specialist curators will review each proposal and shortlist those that stand out for their creativity, connection to Dubai’s identity, feasibility, and long-term sustainability.

General guidelines: Artists are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • They must create original artworks that have not been previously exhibited or produced.
  • The designs must reflect Dubai’s identity.
  • Compositions must be simple and well-suited to tunnel environments.
  • Colours must be chosen with care, with no text or distracting visuals.
  • Materials used must be able to withstand high temperatures and weather fluctuations.
  • Ceramic tile systems are preferred.

Submission guidelines: Artists must submit the following information when applying:

  • Concept statement outlining their vision and objectives.
  • Presentation boards with proposed design and colour palette.
  • Implementation plan covering public safety and artwork protection details
