Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has approved the implementation of the new Fourth Corridor project, aimed at strengthening Dubai’s road network and enhancing connectivity with the UAE’s federal road network.
The new corridor will span approximately 80 kilometres, extending from Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi to Al Shanouf Road in Sharjah.
The project will comprise 12 lanes in both directions and include 72 bridges and 17 tunnels. Once completed, the corridor is expected to reduce journey times by up to 60% and serve more than 3.1 million people.
It will have a capacity of around 24,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and will support integration with Al Maktoum International Airport and Etihad Rail.
The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will extend from Al Shanouf Road in Sharjah to Dubai-Al Ain Road and is estimated to cost AED3.5 billion.
The second phase will extend from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi.
Announcing the approval, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan said the project was in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to boost investment in infrastructure.
“This project reflects our continued commitment to investing in infrastructure as a driver of economic growth, a foundation for enhancing quality of life, and a key pillar of Dubai’s readiness for the future,” His Highness Sheikh Hamdan said.
Dubai has continued to expand its road and transport infrastructure as its population and economy grow. The emirate’s road network has reached 25,974 lane-kilometres, according to the Dubai Media Office.
