July temperatures set to rise above average across UAE: National Center of Meteorology
Humidity, fog and dust expected as summer conditions intensify
Dubai: The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) expects average temperatures across the UAE during July to be higher than the long-term average, particularly in inland regions, as summer conditions intensify across the country.
According to the NCM, average temperatures this month are forecast to range between 39.7°C and 43.8°C, while average minimum temperatures are expected to range between 29.1°C and 31.4°C nationwide.
Less rainfall expected
The NCM said rainfall during July is expected to be 4.9 mm below the long-term average, indicating generally drier conditions across the country.
At the same time, relative humidity levels are expected to increase, particularly during the early morning hours in some areas. Maximum humidity is forecast to reach 71%, creating favourable conditions for the formation of fog and mist.
Record weather figures
According to July climate statistics published by the NCM on its official account on the X platform, the highest rainfall recorded during the month occurred in 2022, when Fujairah Port received 234.9 mm of rain.
The highest temperature ever recorded in July was registered in 2017 in the Muzairah area, reaching 51.8°C.
Statistics also show that Jebel Jais recorded the lowest July temperature in 2022, at 16.9°C.
Meanwhile, July 2023 recorded the highest number of fog events, with 11 days of heavy fog and five days of light fog.
For dust activity, Al Ain Airport recorded the highest frequency, registering seven dust events during both 2009 and 2018.
Land and sea breeze influence
The NCM said the land and sea breeze cycle plays an important role during July weather patterns.
The UAE is typically affected by:
- Southeasterly winds during the night and early morning.
- Northerly winds during the daytime.
- Periodic active southerly winds, especially in the morning, which may raise dust and reduce visibility.
- Occasional periods of active northwesterly winds.
The average wind speed during the month is expected to be around 13 km/h.
The NCM noted that the highest wind speed ever recorded in July occurred in 2022 at Al Ain Airport, reaching 130 km/h.
