Stay protected against dusty weather in Dubai today, advises NCM

Dubai: Enjoy a respite from high temperatures today, as the mercury dips to the mid-30s across the emirates.

The highest temperature in Dubai is expected to be 34°C, with Abu Dhabi maxing out at 36°C.

Despite a relatively cooler day ahead, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) warned of the potential for a reduction in visibility, when driving, as the country is currently experiencing dust storms and blowing sands from northwesterly winds heading south. Dusty conditions are expected to last until Saturday, May 23.

Wind speeds will average 10 to 25km/h today, but may increase to 40km/h in open or sandy areas, so be cautious if you encounter blowing sands.

The NCM shared a post on X, outlining safety measures for dusty weather:

• Follow safety instructions issued by the authorities during dusty conditions.
• Avoid direct exposure to dust.
• If you have respiratory illnesses or allergies, take preventive measures.
• Close doors and windows to prevent dust from entering buildings.
• Drive safely and follow safety rules.
• Avoid spreading rumours, and follow reports by the NCM.
