Dubai: Laura Krajewski Erk was moments away from panic when she realised something was wrong with her car.

The Dubai-based content creator had just walked towards her car, when she noticed that the car’s mirrors were open – which meant that her car doors were unlocked. She then realised she was missing her car keys.

“I’m shaking … Thank God I’m in Dubai,” she said in a now-viral Instagram video that has struck a chord with thousands across the UAE.

What happened next was the kind of story that may sound foreign to someone, unless you’ve lived in Dubai.

Instead of the car being stolen, she found that her car key had been safely placed on the hood of her car.

“I had to have dropped it when I was walking inside in some very kind soul put it in on my car instead of stealing my car which probably would have happened elsewhere. So, thank you Dubai. Thank you to the sweet person who didn’t keep me stranded here,” she said in the video.

The post quickly blew up online, racking up more than 14,000 likes — including one from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.

But while Laura was stunned, much of the internet seemed oddly unsurprised.

“This is Dubai,” one commenter wrote simply.

“Only in Dubai,” another added.

Another user summed up the broader mood around the story: “Dubai isn't just one of the safest cities in the world — it's a place where you can build both your dreams and your home.”
