Dubai: Hot and humid conditions will continue across the UAE today, with temperatures in the mid to high 40s. Residents in coastal and internal regions may also wake up to fog or mist, this weekend.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the weather will be fair in general today, although humidity levels are expected to rise overnight. The increase in moisture in the atmosphere could lead to fog or mist formation in parts of the country by early morning on Saturday, particularly in coastal and internal areas. So, if you’re heading out early this weekend, drive cautiously, as the NCM warns of reduced horizontal visibility in foggy conditions.

Heat on the rise

Temperatures are climbing across the UAE today. Inland areas are forecast to record highs between 43°C and 47°C, while coastal regions will see temperatures ranging from 36°C to 42°C.

Among major cities, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are expected to reach 42°C, while Sharjah is forecast to hit 43°C. Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah will see the mercury climb to 46°C, while Liwa is once again set to be the hottest location in the country at 47°C.

Strong winds, rough seas

During the day today, light to moderate southwesterly to northwesterly winds will reach speeds of up to 40km/h. The NCM cautions that strong gusts may stir up dust and sand, especially in the western region of the country, and in exposed or open areas.

Avoid nighttime beach activities today if you’re in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Sea conditions in the Arabian Gulf will be slight to moderate during the day, but may turn rough offshore, with wave heights reaching up to six feet. The Sea of Oman is expected to remain slight, according to the NCM, which means the eastern shores will see calm and gentle sea conditions.

Weekend outlook

Looking ahead, the weekend is expected to bring fair weather and clear skies. However, humidity will persist, especially during the night, with a chance of mist formation in coastal areas during the early morning hours of Saturday and Sunday. Winds are forecast to ease slightly over the weekend, according to the NCM.
