Dubai: If you’re heading outdoors this weekend, be fully prepared for dusty conditions and reduced visibility. Strong winds continue to sweep across parts of the UAE, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).
Dust warning in effect
The weather will be fair today, in general, but you can expect strong winds during the daytime, reaching speeds of up to 45km/h in coastal cities like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, as well as internal regions, like Al Ain and Liwa.
The NCM has warned that dust-laden winds could create hazardous driving conditions across the UAE through today and Sunday, with visibility expected to deteriorate sharply at times. Residents are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas and exercise heightened caution on the roads.
Here are some tips the NCM shared on social media yesterday, when commuting in dusty conditions:
- Drive safely and follow safety rules.
- Lock all doors and windows to prevent dust from entering the buildings.
- Don’t expose yourself to dust directly.
- Monitor official weather forecasts.
High temperatures all through the weekend
Temperatures will remain high across the country this weekend, with Dubai forecast to see highs of 39°C, and Sharjah highs of 40°C today. Al Ain is likely to experience the hottest weather today, peaking at 43°C.
Clouds will start to appear eastward on the horizon, with an increase in temperatures on Sunday.
Fog forecast
While wind speeds are expected to ease slightly by Sunday, the NCM has forecast humid conditions overnight and into Sunday morning, increasing the likelihood of fog or mist along some coastal stretches. Motorists travelling early in the morning on both Sunday and Monday, are advised to remain cautious, as visibility may be a concern in fog-prone areas.
Challenging sea conditions
Sea conditions remain unstable this weekend, with the Arabian Gulf expected to be rough to moderate today, due to strong northwesterly winds. Wave heights could reach between four to eight feet at times, off-shore, so it’s best to avoid beach or boating activities.
However, the Oman Sea is forecast to remain slight, with calm waters and waves between one and three feet.
