Dubai: After days of heat, some relief is on the way.

Temperatures across the UAE are expected to dip slightly today, but don’t put away your sunglasses just yet – fresh winds are set to kick up dust across parts of the country, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Dusty weather returns

The weather today is expected to be fair in general, but dusty at times, with low clouds expected over northern areas. Light to moderate winds, averaging speeds of 10 to 20km/h, will increase to 40km/h, causing blowing dust and creating hazy conditions in exposed areas. The NCM cautions motorists and pedestrians to be cautious in such areas, as reduced horizontal visibility may make it hard for you to see into the distance.

Slight fall in temperature

The good news is that the mercury has dipped slightly today. Coastal areas will see highs ranging from 39°C to 44°C, while inland regions can expect temperatures between 42°C and 47°C. Mountainous areas are the coolest spots in the UAE today, with highs of 32°C to 37°C.

Among major cities, Dubai’s peak temperature has dropped four degrees since yesterday and is forecast to hit 38°C, while Abu Dhabi is slightly warmer at 39°C. Al Ain and Ras Al Khaimah are feeling the heat, with temperatures forecast to reach 43°C in these regions. Sila, in the western part of the UAE, could be among the hottest places in the country, at 46°C.

Arabian Gulf turns rough

As winds pick up speed today, sea conditions will turn from moderate to rough in the Arabian Gulf, as waves reach five to six feet off-shore. In the eastern region of the UAE, the Sea of Oman will remain slight, with placid waters and gentle waves reaching peak heights of two to three feet.
