Abu Dhabi: The UAE Fatwa Council has announced that it will observe the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah on the evening of Sunday, 29 Dhul-Qa'dah, corresponding to May 17, 2026.

The observation will be carried out in coordination with national observatories and specialised centres across the country, using advanced methods and modern technologies to ensure accuracy.

The moon sighting will take place at several designated platforms, including Shawaf Al-Khatm in cooperation with the International Astronomy Center, Shawaf Dubai in collaboration with the Dubai Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, and the Sharjah Space and Astronomy Complex in partnership with its affiliated astronomy facilities.

The initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to combining traditional religious practices with scientific advancements to determine the start of the Islamic month.
