Al Ain: The Al Ain Civil, Commercial and Administrative Court has ordered a woman to pay Dh20,000 in compensation to a man for the moral and psychological damages he suffered after she insulted and threatened him.
The ruling follows the woman's conviction in a criminal case, in which she was fined Dh5,000 for sending insulting messages and threatening to disclose a secret that would harm the man's honour.
The plaintiff filed a civil lawsuit seeking Dh150,000 in compensation for psychological, moral and emotional damages. He also claimed that the defendant's actions led to disputes in his marital life, resulting in divorce and the breakdown of his family, and requested that she be ordered to pay court fees, expenses and legal costs.
According to the case documents, the plaintiff argued that the threats and harm caused by the defendant resulted in sadness, grief and psychological distress.
The defendant submitted a memorandum requesting that the court dismiss the case.
In its judgment, the court stated that the defendant's actions had harmed the plaintiff's reputation and dignity and caused him pain and distress, constituting moral damage that warranted compensation.
However, the court rejected the plaintiff's claim that the defendant should be held liable for his divorce and the breakdown of his family, finding that the case documents did not contain sufficient evidence to establish a direct causal link between her actions and the end of his marital relationship.
The court ultimately ordered the defendant to pay the plaintiff Dh20,000 in compensation, in addition to court fees and expenses.
