Dubai: A video of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, meeting nine-year-old Roger Xie is winning hearts online, after the child’s letter to His Highness led to a special personal meeting.
“I read that you love Dubai three times. Dubai loves you back. It’s my pleasure to meet you and your family,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
Speaking to the boy’s parents, he added: “He is a very clever boy and he has courage to write me a letter. I was very pleased to receive it.”
Memory for life
In another touching moment, Xie tells Sheikh Mohammed that the UAE is his home and thanks him for keeping everyone safe.
Sheikh Mohammed responded: “Dubai and the UAE will always be safe for you and your family and your friends … You are always going to be safe here.”
He was then seen signing a copy of his book, Lessons from Life, before handing it to the boy and saying: “This is what life taught me … some stories.”
He then removed a handcrafted UAE flag pin that he is wearing and places it on the boy’s shirt.
“Since I saw you, I give you the flag. Good luck and remember I am your friend,” Sheikh Mohammed said.
The video ends with Sheikh Mohammed posing for photographs with Xie and his family — a special moment the nine-year-old is unlikely to forget.
