A United Nations official of British nationality has escaped the two-month jail term awarded for flashing his middle finger to a Dubai airport staff with the appeals court cancelling the sentence but confirming that the man needs to be deported.

The Dubai Misdemeanours Court had earlier sentenced him for two months in jail followed by deportation. The Dubai Appeals Court on Thursday cancelled the jail term awarded to him, reported the Gulf News.

The 34-year-old man who was deployed in Afghanistan was on a two-day visit to Dubai when he allegedly flashed his middle finger at the face of an Emirati female staffer at the Dubai International airport.

The airport employee who works as a client services supervisor had testified that the Passport Control had refused a visa to a Ukrainian girl travelling with him on account of her young age.  He flashed his middle finger at the staffer who told him he needed to explain the purpose of the girl’s visit to the immigration official.  He however denied the charges.
