Update: A second crash has been reported on Sheikh Zayed Road, opposite Times Square Centre, adding to the traffic rush that has already affected the E11 morning commute.

At 8.30am, eyewitnesses were reporting near standstill southbound traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road caused by a crash that has resulted in a partial blockage of two lanes on the busy highway.

An eyewitness told Emirates 24|7: “A sedan car appeared badly mangled, blocking the first lane on Sheikh Zayed Road, opposite Times Square Centre.

“Dubai Police authorities were on the scene, along with a recovery vehicle. But traffic is backed up till Mazaya Centre.”

The crash is the second incident affecting Jebel Ali-bound traffic Sunday morning, with a vehicle overturned near Exit 22, resulting in tailbacks.

A vehicle has reportedly overturned on Sheikh Zayed Road, affecting southbound traffic near Jebel Ali.

According to eyewitness accounts, a goods carrier has turned turtle on E11, near Exit 22, resulting in traffic building up around 8am, with tailbacks extending from the Jebel Ali Freezone until Interchange 5.

Dubai Police authorities are on the scene, but Abu Dhabi-bound traffic has been affected, with people on social media reporting their vehicles “are at a near standstill”.

Jhahanvi Thaker told Emirates 24|7: “As soon as I spotted the traffic building up on Sheikh Zayed Road near Mall of the Emirates, I took the interchange and connected on to Al Khail Road at 8am. The traffic here is free flowing.”

A second crash, confirmed by Dubai Police at 6.30am in the Deira City Centre Tunnel, heading towards the mall junction has now cleared.

Meanwhile, commuters have been reporting free-flowing traffic on Al Wasl Road, with the opening of the new flyover.

However, the Roads and Transport Authority has now blocked a U-turn opposite the Eppco Petrol Pump, affecting traffic from Bur Dubai towards Jumeirah.

Motorists are advised to take the U-turn or the left from the Box Park junction; alternative is to cross the bridge and take a turn after Al Wasl Square.
