Video: UAE singer Ahlam says she may quit

UAE singer Ahlam Al Shamsi, one of the richest female singers in the Arab world, says she may quit singing and become a Muslim preacher.

In an interview with an Egyptian TV channel, the 46-year-old singer says she does not know why she is going to take that decision despite her successful career.

“I don’t know but I have a strong feeling that I will quit my career and become an Islamic preacher,” the outspoken singer told the interviewer.

“I believe I am qualified to become a preacher. I always tell religious stories to my friends and often publish Islamic teachings and other stuff on social media.”

Born in 1969 in Abu Dhabi to a UAE father and Bahraini mother, Ahlam moved to Manama with her parents when she was a child.

She completed secondary schooling and wanted to study Islamic Sharia (jurisprudence) before she suddenly changed her mind and opted for singing.

Ahlam is married to well-known Qatari car racer Mubarak Al Hajri and has three daughters.

She has houses in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, France and Britain, among other countries.
