The Duchess of Cambridge was on Tuesday (February 21) praised for her "understanding of the arts" as she visited a school where painting and drawing are used to help children with behavioural problems.

The duchess travelled to a primary school in Rose Hill on the outskirts of Oxford to learn about the work of one of her new charities which uses art therapy to aid youngsters with issues such as low self-esteem and Asperger's syndrome.

The duchess became a patron of The Art Room in the new year and met staff and pupils from Rose Hill Primary School in Oxford, where the charity runs a dedicated arts therapy room.

Wearing a brown dove-patterned dresscoat by London-based Irish designer Orla Kiely, Kate spent time with children and teachers making artworks in the dedicated art room.
