A 30-year-old Saudi man who attempted a suicide two weeks ago tried to end his life again this week but his bid was foiled by a special army unit.

Two weeks ago, the man climbed a giant sign board in the middle of the road in the southern Saudi town of Baha and threatened to jump down before he was dissuaded by the police. He was then taken for treatment at a psychiatry hospital.

“On Saturday night, he climbed a huge rock in a mountainous area and threatened to jump down. Attempts by relatives, doctors, the police and the province’s governor to dissuade him were all futile,” Okaz daily said.

“The man kept threatening to jump until the next morning, when a special army task force arrived in the scene. Some of its members tried to detract him while two climbed up and managed to catch him although he hit one of them with a stone he was carrying. He was taken again to the psychiatry hospital.”

Sabq Arabic language newspaper published a brief YouTube film showing how army units carried out the risky task of controlling the man.
