Kathmandu: The confirmed death toll from the catastrophic flash floods that struck Nepal and neighbouring Tibet has reached nearly 1,400.

Official reports show that the majority of casualties were recorded in Nepal, where the death toll has reached 1,341.

In Tibet, the number of fatalities has risen to 43, up from 31 previously reported.

Search and rescue operations remain under way, with more than 5,000 people still reported missing.
