A 44-year-old Chinese saleswoman, BJZ, allegedly offered a policeman Dh2,000 bribe when he asked her to present her identity card, the Dubai Criminal Court was told on Sunday.

Emirati policeman Walid Yaqoob, 20, testified that he was on duty at the Metro Station in Jebel Ali on November 2 when he suspected a passenger who looked worried. He passed by the passenger and took a round of the metro station.

“When I returned to the same place, the passenger was still standing there. She looked worried and scared so I approached her and asked her ID card. She replied that she does not carry any ID now and has forgotten it at home. I asked her to accompany me to the office at the metro station. While we were walking towards the office she put money in my left hand and asked me to let her go, assuring that she would carry her ID next time. I reported the incident to my senior. When asked why she had given money to him, she replied that she used to do that in her home country whenever she was stopped by the policemen,” he testified.

The accused denied charges when appeared before the court which will reconvene on December 19.
