The nine-year old autistic boy, Awad, who died in Dubai due to suspected poisoning by food and/or inhaling fumes from pest control medicine in a flat adjoining his, has left a heart-broken family behind.

While his parents - Firoz KV (46) and Zeenath (38), and 15-year old brother Mohammed Azeem, continue to recover in Al Baraha Hospital in Dubai other family members who spoke to Emirates 24|7 this morning said the family had just moved to a spacious new flat to give their autistic son a better life.

The results of a postmortem are still awaited.

Majeed KV, brother of Firoz, said: “This is the most unfortunate tragedy that hit my brother’s family.

“They moved to a more spacious flat on a building with centralised air conditioning to give more space and comfort to their children, especially Awad.

Awad was a student of Al Noor Center for Special Needs.

Of late, he started learning things and reading and writing.

The family moved from near Fish Roundabout to the Garden City building in Deira.

Firoz started vomiting and he was the first to be admitted in the hospital.

Later other family members too started vomiting and the younger boy died immediately after reaching the hospital.

“He was coming back to life from abnormality and it is a great loss to the family,” Majeed added.

“The residents of an adjacent flat used pesticides, sealed their rooms and windows and left to live somewhere else.

“There was a strong pesticide odour in the flat,” said sources at the Garden Center Building.

The elder boy, Mohammed Azim (15) is a tenth standard student of Indian High School Dubai and Firoz is the marketing manager of Pan Dubai Cargo Company.

“He was a cute boy and used to visit our office with his father.

“We are sad that such a tragedy has occurred to our manager,” said a colleague of Firoz.

The Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality and Health Authorities are continuing their investigation.
