Just when Liverpool flop £35 million Andy Carroll appears to be regaining his form comes the bad news for Kenny Dalglish that skipper Steven Gerrard could be out for a month.

Gerrard missed Liverpool's win against West Brom because of an ankle infection despite making the trip to Hawthorns.

Carroll starred for the Reds by heading home the second goal after Charlie Adam converted from the spot for Liverpool to win as expected.

But the sight of their captain who needed to use crutches with his infected ankle in plaster would have muted their celebrations.

Gerrard, who was put on an antibiotic drip, will discover on Tuesday how serious his latest setback is, according to 'The Sun'.

If worst fears come true and he misses action in the whole of November, Liverpool could say goodbye to their title hopes.

He could not only be ruled out of key Premier League games against Manchester City and Chelsea, but also England's double header against Spain and Sweden.

Dalgish must be wondering whether the Liverpool talisman could ever become the same force again although he scored after starting for the first time a fortnight ago against Manchester United.

Even Gerrard, 31, doubted whether he could make a come back after having spent nearly seven months out following groin surgery.

Gerrard's problems started again last week after he suffered a cut on his ankle in training aduring a midweek session at their Melwood camp.

He was expected to recover but the injury became infected forcing him to dash back to Merseyside.
