Arsene Wenger has often been philosophical about bad luck. He did have Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and Robin Van Persie all in one team – but never without one of them being injured.

Now he is unlikely to have any of the above and what’s worse, the bad luck continues.

Tomas Rosicky will miss the start of Arsenal’s season after undergoing an Achilles operation.

Rosicky was the key turnaround figure for Wenger as he ended last season with some stellar performances.

The Premier League is so tight this year that Arsenal cannot afford to start slow.

The Sun reported that the injury-prone Czech playmaker suffered the problem at Euro 2012 and is not expected to be out for more than a month.

Rosicky has missed the club’s tour of the Far East and will now miss the opening game of the Premier League season against Sunderland on August 18.

The Gunners have to also cope with Bacary Sagna  and Jack Wilshere missing out.

Sagna broke his leg against in May and Wilshere has been out for a year with knee and ankle problems.
