16-year-old girl hangs self after row with mom over Facebook chat with boyfriend

Cases of suicide linked to Facebook pages of youth are growing at an alarming rate in Sri Lanka.

In the third such case since the start of the new year, ‘Lakbima’ has reported that a 16-year-old school girl at Polpithigama killed herself after her mother caught her chatting with her boyfriend on Facebook.

According to the report, the girl was chatting with her boyfriend on Facebook when her mother suddenly came into the room and began to question her.

The two had a major fight and when the mom woke up the next day, she found the girl hanging in her room.
