The Address Downtown Dubai Hotel redevelopment details are being worked out and will be announced shortly, according to a top official of Emaar Hospitality Group.

"The Address Downtown Dubai hotel remains Emaar Hospitality's flagship property and we are working hard on its redevelopment plans,” said Chris Newman, Emaar Hospitality Group's Corporate Director of Operations. He was speaking on the sidelines of the ongoing Arabian Travel Market.

The iconic hotel was ‎damaged in a fire on New Year's Eve following an electrical short circuit, triggered by a spark from cables between the 14th and 15th floors of the 63-storey tower.

According to Dubai Police, the fire began between apartments 1401 and 1504, between a 1.1 metre pathway and a ledge.

Asked whether the redevelopment plans would see big changes from its predecessor, Newman said: "We aren't ruling anything out at this time. Plans are underway to ensure the hotel remains our flagship property and we will announce more details shortly."

On whether a 2016 reopening was on the plan, Newman said no.

"It is too early to make an announcement on its actual opening date. I can confirm The Address Downtown will not reopen in 2016," stated Newman.

Newman declined to confirm whether the hotel property would reopen by mid-2017.
