Kuwaiti police raided a house and smashed a ring involved in alleged treatment of female patients by merely burning incense and reciting Quranic verses on them, a newspaper in the Gulf emirate reported on Thursday.
Police found more than 150 women waiting for their turn to see the Raqi (healer by Quran) at his flat in Kuwait City, Alanba said.
Women told police the Raqi charged each of them KDfive ($17) for a three-minute session and much more for longer sessions.
The paper said police seized the Kuwaiti man and his four female assistants but added he would not be jailed in the absence of a law on such activity.
It said the unidentified man would be asked to write a statement pledging not to repeat such acts, adding that expatriates involved in this activity are deported.
“Police said they faced a funny situation when they raided that apartment… a woman begged them to let the Raqi see her before they take him…other women said they would not move out of the flat before they get their money back.”
