Gitex Shopper: 9-carat gold laptop auction

In a bid to support Dubai Cares’ initiatives to provide children in developing countries with access to quality primary education, PC vendor Lenovo has launched the #Gold4Good online auction for the world’s first ever 9 carat real solid gold laptop starting at the Gitex Shopper Spring 2015.

All proceeds will go to Dubai Cares, the philanthropic organisation.

The online auction (www.lenovoauction.com) for the 9 carat solid gold Yoga 3 Pro will commence on April 1, 2015, for two weeks with the opening bid starting at Dh50,000 ($13,600).

“Lenovo has always been dedicated to improving education in developing nations and we are proud to be working with Dubai Cares, one of the finest philanthropic organisations in the UAE on this cause. We encourage bidders to ‘dig deep’ and help us make this auction a highly worthwhile cause,” said Mohammed Hilili, General Manager at Lenovo Gulf & KSA. 

“Education is a critical factor in every child’s development, yet many of us take it for granted; while in the developing world, children face daily obstacles that prevent them from going to school and learning. To combat this chronic global issue, we need constant support from corporations and individuals, and we are thrilled to be working with Lenovo on this unique auction which will help us in our fundraising drive,” said Tariq Al Gurg, CEO of Dubai Cares.

The gold Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro laptop is an exclusively handcrafted luxury creation for Lenovo with only one piece made. It is the first 330 gramme solid gold laptop currently in the market.

The laptop exterior and interior keyboard are made of real 9 carat solid gold (not plated) with 6 weeks of stage-by-stage creation from design to production. The inspiration behind the design is to reflect an aerial view of a diamond with each individual piece of solid gold part assembled like a mosaic.

The gold Yoga 3 Pro will be displayed at the Lenovo stand at Gitex Shopper Spring 2015 during its four-day run. Gitex visitors who bid in person for the gold Yoga 3 Pro live at the stand will receive a free Yoga Tablet.

The Yoga 3 Pro is an ultra slim 13-inch, convertible PC, which provides a thin and light frame with new watchband hinge design, a QHD+ screen and Harmony, Lenovo’s intuitive software that adapts to users’ personal preferences as they use the device in its different modes.
