Microsoft Xbox 720 and Sony PS4 launch dates revealed

Rejoice, all ye Xbox and PlayStation fans. We are closer to seeing new gaming consoles from both Microsoft and Sony – and the release dates may be nearer than earlier thought.

Even as Sony has announced that the PS4 is “Coming Holiday 2013” season, i.e., in store for Christmas shopping – and we know that Microsoft will try every trick in the trade for the Xbox 720 to be on the aisles simultaneously if not earlier – the director of Assassin’s Creed 4 has let it slip that the two consoles could see light of day about a couple of months earlier than anticipated.

In an interview, Jean Guesdon, director of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, was asked if his game would be released simultaneously on all video game platforms, including current and next-generation consoles.

He replied by saying the game would have the “same ship” date across all platforms. AC4: Black Flag is expected to be shipped on October 31, 2013. If what Guesdon is saying is correct – and if he knows what he’s talking about – then the two gaming consoles big daddies are going to get head-to-head at least one week before the shipping date of the game.

That makes it (imagine background sound of drum rolls here)… October 24, 2013 – that is about two months before Christmas 2013.

While news that both Xbox and PlayStation will be enticing us in their new avatars this year isn’t a complete shocker (we’ve been telling you for a while now), the fact that they will be both available a couple of months earlier than anticipated will be music to the ears of gaming enthusiasts.

You can watch the video of the Guesdon interview here.
