PS4 vs Xbox One poll results; UAE vs Saudi: Who gets PS4 first?

PS4 tops Xbox One: More US shoppers prefer Sony's PlayStation 4 over Microsoft's Xbox One, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. It's the battle of the holiday sales season.

Dubai - Gamers at the recently concluded Games 13 in Dubai were basking in the glow of what they believed was a coup.

The release date of Sony’s Playstation 4 here in the UAE was announced before Saudi Arabia or any other Middle East market – December 13.

UAE would get PS4 before Saudi – was the buzz at the venue and across social media networks.

Saudi is a much bigger video games’ market and for die-hard PS fans few events will be bigger than the release of PS4 (until the release of PS5, i.e.).

However, Emirates 24|7 can reveal that this, in fact, may not be the case at all.

That the release date of UAE was announced before Saudi, does not necessarily mean the UAE will get the PS4 before the Kingdom.

Speaking exclusively to emirates247.com in the wake of heavy speculation post Games 13, Robert Fisser, General Manager, Playstation, Middle East, Africa, Turkey and India, clarifies:  "We have not yet announced a release date for the other GCC markets.

“It was appropriate to announce the date for the UAE at Games 13 held in Dubai. We will announce the release date for the other GCC markets very soon, before the end of October."

So it could be Saudi first after all; or, the UAE might still get PS4 first. Fisser is not revealing anything more for now.

This website had also revealed the concern of distributors and gamers here in the UAE as regards the number of PS4 consoles that will be made available on December 13 and its effect on sales of PS3 titles.

Fisser says: "PS4 is not replacing PS3. In terms of sales of game titles, we have had our strongest year on the back of franchises like ‘GT5’ and ‘Beyond’, as well as the recent 'The Last of Us'.

“We believe that PS3 owners will continue to invest in and enjoy new game releases from top-selling franchises."

When pushed on console numbers, Fisser parried, “We do not release our numbers, but, we have over one million pre-orders in place worldwide (including UAE) and this is an impressive number.”

If your pre-order is not in, well you could be stuck with your PS3 till next year.
