Samsung and Apple's new smart phones to offer wireless charging

As wireless charging of smart phones is increasingly becoming popular, big league players such as Samsung and Apple have jumped into the bandwagon and might soon introduce wireless charging into their forthcoming handsets.

Nokia was the first to introduce wireless charging in its Lumia series followed by Google Nexus 4, HTC 8X, Droid DNA and LG.

There are custom-built back covers already being made available by third party providers for both the Samsung S3 and the iPhone that enables wireless charging.

However, new reports are surfacing that Korean major Samsung might introduce the feature in the Galaxy S4 through a similar accessory.

According to a Digitimes report, the Galaxy S IV may not come with embedded wireless charging capability but might enable it through a replacement back cover which users will have to buy separately.

Quoting sources, the website said that Samsung is expected to adopt Qi wireless charging technology run by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) while Apple is likely to adopt the wireless charging technology developed internally.

However it is easier for Samsung to introduce the feature thanks to its replaceable cover. But it could be more complicated for Apple to introduce it in the iPhone, especially as no major design changes are expected in the forthcoming iPhone5S or iPhone6.

According to WPC, there are 38 models in the market that support Qi wireless charging and the popularity of the feature is increasing among consumers.
