Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s Playstation 4 are at it again and this time the fight is about control of your eye-balls. Yes, literally.

A new technology that tracks eye movement could be used by one (or both) of the gaming console giants to reward users.

According to an exclusive report in The Sun, Xbox users could soon be rewarded for watching adverts — thanks to this technology.

The report states that Microsoft has filed for a patent in the US allowing it to use eye-tracking technology, developed to play games on its XBox One system.

Money, discounts or points on a loyalty scheme are on the anvil as rewards for those who watch commercials.

This new revelation comes on the weekend before the E3 2013 the electronic entertainment industry’s biggest expo kicks off in Las Vegas on June 10 and where it is widely expected that Sony will unveil the actual PS4 console.

As Microsoft and Sony ratchet up the hype ahead of the launch of their new consoles this year, it is no clear yet if gamers – hardcore and casual - will be happy to know their eye-balls are being monetized.

The Sun report quotes the Microsoft patent application as saying: “Producers, distributors, and advertisers of the video content may set viewing goals and award a viewer who has reached the goals.”

The XBox One is expected to be ut before Christmas while Sony’s launch for PS4 has been out at in the “holiday season.”
