Hyundai E&C wins Dh620m Borouge contract

UAE petrochemical firm Borouge awarded a $169 million (Dh620m) contract to South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction to build a polyethylene unit at its plant in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi.

The contract is the final one for the Borouge 3 expansion project currently underway, Borouge said in a statement on Thursday.

When fully operational in mid-2014, Borouge 3 will more than double the plant's annual capacity to 4.5 million tones to create the world's largest polyolefin plant, the statement said.

In 2010, the annual capacity at the plant was 2 million tonnes. Borouge is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) and Austria's Borealis.
