Over two million tourists visited Oman in 2015

A total of 2,065,414 tourists (except those coming onboard cruise ships) visited the Sultanate of Oman during the first ten months of 2015, an increase of 302,221 tourists in comparison to 2014, where 1,762,920 tourists visited the Sultanate.

Statistical indicators issued by the Ministry of Tourism, carried by Oman News Agency (ONA), showed that the number of licensed hotels rose from 297 in 2014 to 318 hotels in 2015, an increase of 7.1 per cent. The number of rooms and hotel apartments rose from 15.424 in 2014 to 16.691 rooms/apartments, an increase of 8.2 per cent. The number of beds rose from 23,997 beds in 2014 to 25,966 beds over the past year 2015.

Indicators included the largest number of hotel facilities, which opened in 2015 within two star hotels, an increase of 27 per cent from 2014, followed by an increase of hotel apartments 9.7 per cent from 2014.

The number of 5-star hotels reached 11 in 2015, an increase of one hotel, in comparison to 2014. The number of hotel rooms for the same category reached 2450, an increase of 6.7 per cent in comparison to 2014.

The number of 4-star hotels increased two hotels to reach 23 hotels in 2015. The number of hotel rooms and apartments for the same category totalled to 3,300, an increase of 9.7 per cent. The number of 3-star hotels reached 20 hotels, while hotel rooms and apartments for the same category reached 1689 in 2015.

The two star licensed hotels amounted to 47, with an increase of 27 per cent in comparison to 2014.  The number of hotel rooms and apartments for the same category rose 35.9 per cent. The total number of rooms and apartments totaled to 2881 in 2015.

The number of hotel apartments, licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, rose from 103 apartments in 2014 to 113 in 2015, an increase of 9.7 per cent. While the number of rooms and apartments totaled to 3661, an increase of 11.3 per cent. Last year also saw a rise in the number of camps and guest heritage houses and inns.
