Hotel group Carlson Rezidor said it’ll open 12 new properties over the next two years, adding 2,412 rooms in the Middle East.

A statement issued by the hotelier said the new properties will open in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman and Egypt.

These will include one each in Sohar, Ajman, Cairo, Dammam, Jizan, and Dhahran, among others; two each in Dubai and Riyadh, and four in Jeddah.

According to the latest figures released by STR Global for January 2015, there are 633 hotels totalling 147,953 rooms under contract in the Middle East and Africa.

The new properties will expand Rezidor’s existing portfolio in the region, which currently includes 32 hotels under the Radisson Blu, Park Inn by Radisson and Quorvus Collection brands, with a focused expansion of the group’s newly launched lifestyle select Radisson Red brand.

The group, which manages the Radisson Blu and Park Inn by Radisson properties, added 12 hotels to its portfolio across the Middle East in 2014, and signed 10 in 2013.

Regional signings represented 40% of Rezidor’s global signings, with new signings in Saudi Arabia comprising 25% globally.

Elie Milky, Senior Director Business Development for Middle East and Africa for the Rezidor Hotel Group, said: “To have achieved such a phenomenal number of signings within a year is a clear sign that the regional market is experiencing a significant upturn. With consistent year-on-year growth within the Middle East, we are very confident that the number of business and leisure travellers across the region will grow in line with booming economies.”
