UK's Fly launches mobile phones in UAE

The UK mobile phone brand Fly has forayed in to the UAE with the launch of its low to mid-end range.

The British mobile phone company launched six models with prices starting from Dh199 to Dh699 in retail market.

Youssef Saidi, Group Chief Operating Officer of Eurostar, the distributor of Fly in the region, said the company is targeting mass market and that’s why handset prices have been maintained at a rate keeping in mind budget of the masses. The group is simultaneously launching products in retail and on online retail at Souq.

“We are not competing with Samsung, BlackBerry or Apple. We’re trying mass market and aim to capture five per cent market share in the first year of operation,” said Saidi.

“We conducted a survey in the UAE we found that 1 in 3 person has a service or product by Eurostar; so we thought it’s right time to foray into mobile phone business,” Saidi added.

Priced at Dh199, Fly’s IQ 238 handset comes with the Android 2.3.5 OS, 3.5” TFT screen, 1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 1300 mAH, Li-Ion battery and 512MB internal memory. The Dual SIM phone is equipped with GSM 900/1800/EDGE, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and a 2MP camera.

Priced at Dh299, the dual-sim phone IQ431 Glory comes with 4.1 Jelly Bean OS, 512 MB RAM and 1GHz processor.

Fly’s IQ4407 model has 4” TFT capacity, 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, 512 MB RAM, 4GB internal memory, dual core 1.2 GHz processor, dual sim and 1550 mAH, Li-Ion battery. It’s priced at Dh399.

Its fourth mobile IQ4404 has 4.5” TFT screen, dual camera and sim, 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory and dual core 1.2 GHz processor. It costs Dh519 in retail.

The fifth handset - IQ4405 Thunder – in Fly’s range costs Dh549 in retail and is equipped with 4.2 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, 1GB RAM, 4GB internal memory, quad core 1.3 GHz processor and dual camera.

Its last and the most expensive model – IQ454 – costs Dh619 which is equipped with 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal mMemory, Dual Core 1.2 GHz processor, dual sim and dual camera.
