Drydocks World & Maritime World (DDWMW), provider of services to the international marine and maritime industry, announced today that the Mare Forum Shipping Summit will be held in 2014 in Dubai, UAE.

The event, which will be attended by leaders of both the regional and international industry, will be the first time that this internationally-recognized forum will be held in Dubai and will focus on the growing importance and emerging stature of Dubai within industry circles.

The Mare Forum, considered by many to be the most global and influential forum for the maritime and marine industry, will make its first ever foray into the Middle East & North Africa, the Indian sub-continent and Africa. Currently events are held in the US, Europe, South East Asia and South America only.

This recognises the global role played by UAE in general and Dubai in particular in leading ground breaking initiatives in the Maritime, offshore, oil, gas & energy sectors, its accepted position in international Maritime and shipping circles and the influence it wields on global business and trade, according to DDWMW.

It holds a distinguished position within industry circles and maritime transport, and can make a major impact on international business. The event will focus strongly on the world and the Middle East, and the global economic shift from West to East and traditional navigational relations with Africa.

"We recognise the importance of the Mare Forum in promoting healthy debate and discussion among international leaders within the global maritime industry, offshore, energy and oil and gas sectors and arriving at constructive recommendations that could direct the future of international Maritime and shipping industry and a number of allied sectors. Mare Forum in Dubai will help global leaders connect with the strong and emerging maritime sector in the UAE and will introduce key decision-makers in the region to the international players.

This will greatly assist in building bridges, structuring new partnerships and expanding meaningful networks. The Summit will provide sufficient opportunity to encourage a free flow of ideas while still being structured to focus issues of impending significance to the regional and global industry. The event which will be held in Dubai will bring together business and industry leaders in UAE and the region and their global counterparts creating enhanced opportunities for the future for all involved. Dubai, which is at the crossroads of international maritime and shipping routes, provides the ideal environment and excellent connectivity to countries all over the world. The UAE is in close proximity to the Mena region, Africa and the Sub-continent and truly represents the rich maritime heritage of the region in a global scenario," said Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World while announcing the partnership.

“This initiative brings a leading edge and world renowned event in the industry to the region. We are privileged to enter into this partnership to bring such an event to business leaders in the region and to the industry as a whole. An event of this stature will also give a major impetus to Dubai’s bid to host the Expo 2020, an event which is strongly backed DDWMW,” he added.

In a statement, Jannis Kostoulas, Founder & President, Mare Forum, in a press release, said: "Mare Forum is very pleased to announce the holding of the 1st Mare Forum Dubai Summit 2014, with the kind support and cooperation of Drydocks World & Maritime World and the Dubai Council for Marine and Maritime Industries. The focus of the 1st Mare Forum Dubai Summit will be on exploring the future of shipping in Dubai, Middle East and Africa, considering the global political, economical, financial and the other sectors and addressing the impact of these conditions on the global maritime industry, the international shipping industry and the future of the Dubai Maritime Cluster.
