Gulf companies should bid for infrastructure projects to be tendered soon by some African countries and funded by a key Arab League financial establishment, the head of the GCC private sector said on Tuesday.

The projects, worth around USD88.5 million, would target bidders from the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the other Arab League members, said Abdul Rahim Hassan Naqi, secretary general of the Dammam-based federation of the GCC chambers of commerce and industry.

He said the projects involve the construction of roads, schools, hospitals and power networks and that they would be funded by the Khartoum-based Arab bank for economic development in Africa (Badea), a key Arab League financial institution.

In a statement sent to Emirates 24/7, he said the projects are based in Ethiopia, Senegal, Eritrea, Niger, Ivory Coast and other African nations.

“These projects will be tendered for companies from the GCC and the other Arab countries…they include feasibility studies and execution of the projects,” he said.

“The projects are to be launched in early 2015 and should be completed within two years…African governments will soon issue tenders, which will also be published by Badea on its website.”
