UAE per capita meat consumption to rise to 79kg

Per capita consumption of meat in the UAE will rise in the coming years, ranking the country among the top 10 nations by 2019, according to Euromonitor International and VDMA.

Data showed that the per capita consumption would reach 79 kg by 2019, ranking the UAE 7th in the world – ahead of Ireland, Australasia and Australia.

Among the top countries will be Brazil, Argentina, Austria, Taiwan, New Zealand and Portugal.

However, meat production was estimated at 497,000 tonnes which would increase 45 per cent to 721 tonnes in 2019. While global production was estimated at 230,657 thousands tonnes in 2015 which would forecast to rise to 256,887 thousands tonnes – registering in crease of 11 per cent.

Commenting on the international meat exhibition in Germany, Wolfgang Marzin, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Messe Frankfurt, said: “IFFA has been held in Frankfurt for 45 years and, during this time, has developed into the leading international trade fair for the sector. It is and will remain the most important innovation platform for investment goods along the entire process chain. The majority of our exhibitors, who include all world-market leaders, launch their innovations onto the international market at IFFA.”
