Iraq has invited companies to bid for a project to install cable cars in Baghdad within the Army Canal project under way in the capital, a news agency reported on Wednesday.

“We are asking specialised and experienced companies to present their bids to execute the cable car project on an investment basis as part of the Army Canal project,” 'Al-Sumaria' quoted Baghdad’s mayor Naim Aboub Al-Kaabi as saying.

He said Baghdad secretariat is in the process of forming a committee to study the bids and designs for the project, adding that the committee would pick a bidder to invest and execute that project. “We want only companies which have the necessary resources and expertise to bid for this major project,” he said.

Kaabi said the cable car plan is among scores of projects to be carried out in Baghdad and is part of the Army Canal project under way in the capital.

The Cairo-based Arab Contractors company is executing the 147-million-dollar project which involves the development of the Army Cannel and the surrounding area by constructing roads and bridges, a recreation area, restaurants and cafeterias, swimming pools, children playing areas, fountains, statues, and causeways.
