Wikipedia founder to visit Dubai on January 10

The founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales will be visiting Dubai next month to participate in a social media forum being organised by Ericsson.

Wales will attend Ericsson’s Change Makers Forum to discuss the power of social media and how open-source and open-content technology is affecting the traditional business models on January 10, 2016.

The event is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, and Chief Executive Emirates Airline and Group Dubai Aviation City.

Wales will provide a keynote speech on how businesses need to interact with their customers, distributors and suppliers in the future to embrace the change in the society.

“As the founder of Wikipedia, I saw how collaboration and connectivity were two values that will help transform the society. The Change-Makers Forum aims to talk about the next step that companies and consumers need to embrace to achieve an enhanced society, using technology to enable this change,” says Wales.

Wikipedia which has grown as one of the largest database of information available online has about 38 million articles. It recently released a four minute video on what people read in 2015. During 2015, more than 100,000 pictures were submitted by 9,000 participants.
