Aunt burns child's hands for stealing Rs.20

Colombo: An eight-year-old child’s hands were burnt as punishment for stealing [SriLankan] Rs. 20, reported Ada.

Police has begun investigations after National Child Protection Authority took up the case.

Both the hands of the child were burnt with a spoon by her aunt who allegedly discovered she had stolen Rs. 20.

The child has been admitted to hospital and is receiving treatment.

The 38-year-old woman has been remanded to police custody.
