Three Iranians allegedly imported in a shipping container 35 million tablets of banned drugs in addition to 2.5kg of Tramadol powder, the Dubai Criminal Court heard.

A customs officer found in a container a large quantity of medicine boxes and other materials as mentioned in the customs clearance certificate.

The manager of the importing company, MR, 51, Bangladeshi was asked to visit the department.

When confronted with Tramadol and other banned medicines, he said that he had offered the import code of the company for Dh1,000 to a customs clearance company to allow import of permitted cargo.

The clearance company claimed that a company whose licence has expired had asked them to find a company that would give its import code and they obliged.

Police arrested the owners of the company that imported the banned drugs.

The court will reconvene on January 17.
