The Public Prosecution in Abu Dhabi has ordered the arrest of a sportsman following the appearance of a video on social networking sites in which the accused sportsman had spoken abusive words against another sports figure.
It added that, "This is considered a crime and breach of public morality, which is punishable up to imprisonment and fine."
The Public Prosecution confirmed that the law in the UAE stands firm against practices that breach order, public morals and ill-use of modern technologies, especially social networking sites.
The case dates back to the proliferation of video on social networking sites in which the accused appeared while making indecent gestures and uttering offensive phrases to one of the sports personalities.
The video, which spread dramatically, triggered resentment among viewers who deemed it an infringement on the moral and religious values of the community.
