A construction worker murdered his male lover and buried his body at the scene of the crime in Abu Dhabi before fleeing the UAE with his accomplice.

The body was discovered three months later when dustmen stumbled across the victim’s skeleton while moving a temporary garbage site to another place in Samha.

A court trying the two men in their absence sentenced them to three years in jail and ordered them to pay Dh200,000 diya (blood money) to the victim’s relatives, after they pardoned the killer in exchange for diya in line with Islamic law.

The killer and the victim worked for the same company in Abu Dhabi and were close friends before they decided to have a relationship, the court was told.

Just before the victim was moved to another site, he had an argument with the killer and both decided to end their affair.

After  some time, the victim started  sending text message to his mate’s mobile phone asking for resuming their relationship but his request was repeatedly rejected.

“Fed up with his messages, the defendant decided to kill his ex-lover and sought help from a friend working in their company,” the Arabic language daily ‘Emarat Al Youm’ said.

It said they agreed to meet the lover in Samha at night after plotting to kill him. When he came to the agreed place, one of the two stabbed him many times.

After they made sure he was dead, they buried the body in the same area and went back to their company accommodation. A few days later, the killer left the UAE while his accomplice departed three months later.

A third worker who knew about the murder was fined Dh1,000 by court for failing to report the crime, the paper said, without identifying the killers and the victim.
