Appeal acquits a woman from dealing with drugs charge

The Court of Appeal acquitted a Chinese woman from trading in tramadol turning down a 7 years in jail that she had been given by the Court of First Instance for smuggled and possessing for promotional purpose 2,000 tramadol tablets via a shipping container.

The Court has also turned down a Dh100,000 fine and deportation sentence that the 45 year old IW had been sentenced to by the lower court.

According to the records, an Anti-Narcotics officer testified that information made Dubai Customs about suspicious container in Jebel Ali port and we were supplied with the identity of the recipient.

The trader was asked to collect the consignment but as she claimed inability to do that, she was offered a delivery service and so she gave her shop address in the International City where she was arrested.

The accused admitted that the medicine had been sent to her by a doctor in China for selling them in the UAE.
