A company auditor is pronounced guilty of stealing 17 tonnes of cement worth Dh4,080 from his employer with the help of a truck driver.

The Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance sentenced the 41-year-old auditor, BS, to one-and-a-half years in prison on theft charge.

The truck driver PS, 45, received 3 months in jail for theft and criminal complicity charges.

The two were also ordered to be deported after serving their jail terms.

A year before the incident, the company found Dh1m difference in its diesel expense accounts.

Following that, the company’s management decided to tighten security arrangements at the exit and entry points.

On December 29, 2013, MS, 42, suspected a truck exiting the company’s gate.

“I stopped a truck and found large quantity of cement that was not unloaded in the company’s store. I informed the management,” MS told investigators.

The company investigated the issue and found out that the company’s auditor was in charge of checking the truck load.

The company’s auditor was assigned to weigh the cement. During the investigation it emerged that the auditor did not record the quantity that remained in the truck in the company’s electronic system.

The company reported the incident to the police who arrested the auditor and the driver for theft.
